Calitri

Body

Calitri is a characteristic village in Irpinia, located on the border between Campania, Basilicata, and Puglia, in the province of Avellino. It is situated on a hill at over 600 meters above sea level and is distinguished by its historic center made up of narrow streets, arches, staircases, and colorful houses, often stacked on top of each other in a spectacular urban pattern.

The village has ancient origins, with traces dating back to Roman times, but its current appearance developed in the Middle Ages. The district of "civita," the oldest part, is a maze of alleyways and houses carved into the rock, now partly restored thanks to cultural and tourism regeneration projects.

Calitri is also known for its artisan tradition, especially for ceramics, and for its popular festivals. Among the most noteworthy events is the Sponz Fest, conceived by the musician Vinicio Capossela, which animates the village every summer with music, theater, and culture.

The panoramic view from Calitri stretches over valleys, mountains, and forests, offering picturesque views in every season. It is a place that combines the tranquility of the province with the charm of history and is perfectly suited for slow and authentic tourism.
