Caposele

Body

Caposele is a fascinating village located in the province of Avellino, in the Campania region, nestled in the greenery of the Regional Park of the Picentini Mountains. It is mainly known for being the main source of the Sele river, from which it takes its name, and for hosting the imposing Sele Springs, the heart of the large Acquedotto Pugliese, one of the most important in Europe.

The village has a strong connection with nature and water, which has marked its history and identity. The springs can be visited through naturalistic and museum routes, such as the Museum of Waters and the area of the old hydroelectric plant, which tell the engineering and human effort behind the aqueduct.

Caposele is also an important religious center: Saint Gerard Majella, the patron saint of mothers and children, was born there, and the Sanctuary of Saint Gerard, located in the Materdomini district, is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in southern Italy.

The village retains an authentic atmosphere, with quiet alleys, mountain views, and a gastronomic tradition linked to the Irpinian cuisine, made of genuine flavors and local products. Caposele is an ideal destination for those seeking spirituality, nature, and history, in a serene and welcoming setting.
