The Maritime Military Arsenal of Taranto is one of the most important Italian naval complexes and has been the core of the activities of the Italian Navy in the Mediterranean for over a century. Inaugurated at the end of the nineteenth century, the Arsenal was created to support the growth of the national fleet, offering advanced facilities for the construction, maintenance, and repair of naval units.

Located in a strategic position between the Mar Piccolo and Mar Grande, the complex extends over a vast area and includes dry docks, specialized workshops, and buildings of great architectural value. Its monumental entrance, characterized by elegant iron gates and a sober neoclassical façade, is one of the most recognizable symbols of military Taranto.

Today, the Arsenal still plays a fundamental role in the logistical and technical activities of the Navy, combining tradition and innovation. In addition to its operational function, it also represents an important historical and identity heritage for the city, bearing witness to the deep connection between Taranto and the sea.
