Pala San Giacomo is the main indoor sports arena of Conversano, in the province of Bari, Apulia. It is a modern municipal facility designed for competitions and public events, with a large playing court, spectator stands, changing rooms and service areas. Today it serves above all as the home venue for Conversano’s handball teams, a sport deeply rooted in the town’s identity, but it can also host volleyball, basketball, martial arts, school tournaments, concerts and civic gatherings. Its role is therefore both practical and symbolic: it is a centre for sport, youth activity and community life. Built as part of the town’s contemporary sports infrastructure, the arena reflects the strong local tradition of team sports and the national reputation gained by Conversano in Italian handball. For visitors, Pala San Giacomo is mainly of interest during matches, tournaments or events, when it offers a lively experience of local passion and Apulian sporting culture. It is not a historic monument, but it can be included in a visit to Conversano, whose nearby old town is known for the Aragonese Castle, the Cathedral, the monastery of San Benedetto and the cultural landscape of the Conversano lakes. Tourists should check the event calendar in advance for tickets, opening times and access details. Read less
