Where Latin poetry meets archaeological treasures in the heart of Basilicata

Body

Venosa is a picturesque town located in Basilicata, in the province of Potenza. It is mainly known for being the birthplace of the Latin poet Quintus Horatius Flaccus (Horace) and for its rich historical and archaeological heritage. Founded in Roman times, it preserves numerous ancient remains, including the archaeological area with the baths, the amphitheater, and the unfinished Abbey of the Holy Trinity, a striking example of medieval architecture.

The historic center is characterised by cobbled alleys, noble palaces, and the presence of the majestic Aragonese Castle, which now houses the National Archaeological Museum. Venosa is also part of the "Most Beautiful Villages of Italy" circuit and is renowned for its wine-making tradition, particularly for the production of Aglianico del Vulture.

An ideal destination for those who love history, art, and good food.
